ANNOUNCING EXPANDED MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA AT WOMEN MOVING MILLIONS

Over the past 17 years, Women Moving Millions has grown to become a dynamic impact-led community on a mission to power the movement for gender equality. Our nearly 400-member community has collectively committed over $1B to improving the lives of women and girls. I am writing today with an exciting update to our strategic vision for the future, including membership criteria changes.

At our Annual Member Day in May, we shared our collective ambition to unleash the unstoppable force of women’s leadership and catalyze the next $1B in resources in history for women and girls by 2030. As part of this new 2030 vision and strategic plan, we seek to drive greater impact and accelerate progress through:

  • Transforming how we give and invest, removing barriers for leaders and innovators doing the work on the ground.
  • Inspiring bolder investments (resources, social capital, and expertise) from a more diverse ecosystem of members, nonmembers, funding partners, and allies.
  • Challenging the cultural and societal norms that hold women and girls back.
As part of this effort, we are embarking on a transformational journey to position the organization to meet this moment. This includes:
  • Growing a dynamic, diverse global network and expanding our reach and influence.
  • Catalyzing collaboration for collective impact through new impact partnerships and initiatives.
  • Powering ourselves to power the movement, and investing in our capacity to realize our new 2030 vision and plan.

A critical first step in this plan is to expand our membership criteria to support the growth of a dynamic and diverse community of gender equity investors. The expansion of our membership criteria is an acknowledgment of the growing leadership role women are playing in moving capital equitably, spanning philanthropy, political advocacy, and investment activity.

We are pleased to share that we are broadening the qualifying contributions towards members’ $1M commitment to include political advocacy* and investing in women-led business ventures whose aim is to benefit women and/or girls.

We look forward to sharing more in the coming months about how Women Moving Millions will be working to scale and accelerate our impact, and how you can support.

You are an important part of our history and our future, continuously proving that when women give boldly, others will follow. Together, we can be the engine that supercharges the movement for gender equality.

In partnership,
Sarah

UPDATED MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

Our newly defined membership criteria will help WMM bolster the myriad ways members increase women’s power and influence, accelerating progress towards gender equality:

A gift or commitment with a total value of $1 million USD or more (within 10 years) to organizations or initiatives that work toward the advancement of women and girls. All gifts and commitments made must have an explicit and clear gender lens and fit one of the following criteria:

  • U.S. IRS designation of 501(c)3 nonprofit organization
  • 501(c)4* social welfare organization or global equivalent, and/or
  • Investing in women-led business ventures whose business purpose is to benefit women and/or girls.

*501(c)(4) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to engage in “social welfare” activities benefiting the public good.  A U.S. IRS designated entity, a 501(c)(4) can engage in limited political and lobbying activity.

You can read the full list of membership commitment criteria by level (Individual, Family, and NextGen) here. And, if you know of any prospective members who would be interested in joining our community, please reach out to Amanda Griffin.

WMM Releases New Report

In 2023, we surveyed the WMM membership in our inaugural Community Impact Survey. We are thrilled to share our results and learnings through our new report, Catalyzing Change: Powering the Movement through Community & Collaboration (2024). The results of this survey not only validated our theory of change, but also provided us with a deeper understanding of how our community is impacting members’ personal growth, philanthropic leadership, advocacy, and grantmaking.
