Women Moving Millions CEO Sarah Haacke Byrd named to TIME 100 Philanthropy list
We’re thrilled to share that Women Moving Millions’ CEO, Sarah Haacke Byrd, has been named to the TIME 100 Philanthropy list.
This recognition reflects not only Sarah’s visionary leadership but also the bold, collaborative work of the entire Women Moving Millions (WMM) community. At WMM, we believe that philanthropy is most powerful when it funds courageous ideas, supports bold leadership, and challenges the status quo. This honor affirms the growing visibility and impact of women’s philanthropic leadership and the rising economic power that drives it.
A Critical Moment for Women’s Rights & Democracy
This acknowledgement comes at a time of profound urgency. We are witnessing increasing restrictions on freedom of expression, growing political and economic polarization, and escalating threats to the very systems that uphold democracy and human rights. These shifts are not abstract—they are reshaping the lives, futures, and freedoms of millions of women and girls.
Gender equality is not only a moral imperative but central to building just, prosperous, and resilient societies. Troublingly, a recent United Nations survey found that over half of all women’s rights organizations supporting women in crisis could close within six months due to sharp declines in international aid and its ripple effects. The cost of inaction is immeasurable.
Meeting the Challenge
At WMM, we believe the future of philanthropy depends on unleashing the full potential of women’s leadership. We see this honor from TIME as a celebration and a call to action.
Women’s leadership is essential to building a future where all women and girls have full autonomy, freedom, and agency over every aspect of their lives. Through bold, feminist philanthropy rooted in community, we’re building a more just and resilient funding movement that doesn’t simply reflect the world as it is, but reimagines it as it should be.
Now more than ever, we must stay engaged, listen deeply and with empathy, and act with courage, urgency, and imagination.
The full TIME100 Philanthropy list will be featured in the June 9, 2025 issue of TIME and is available on newsstands beginning Friday, May 30. We invite you to read it here, share it with your network, and encourage others to join this growing movement.
