On February 21, 2020 Women Moving Millions hosted the second installment in our Catalyzing Equality event series with a conversation at the Cosmopolitan Club featuring The 19th, a new nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom reporting at the intersection of gender, politics, and policy. The 19th aims to empower women who have been underserved and underrepresented in American media with the information, community, and tools they need to be equal participants in U.S. democracy.

"Women are not monolithic, we shouldn’t treat them like a special interest group." – Emily Ramshaw, Co-Founder & CEO, The 19th

Twenty five WMM members and special guests gathered over breakfast to hear The 19th’s Co-Founder & CEO, Emily Ramshaw, and Editor at Large, Errin Haines, discuss the need for an increase in political media to reflect the fact that women are more engaged in the political process than ever before. From free-to-consume and free-to-publish journalism from diverse voices to deep-dive, evidence-based reporting that highlights gender inequities and shares stories on the issues that most directly impact women, The 19th is aiming to level the playing field.
