Announcing the Women Moving Millions Art Catalyst Matching Fund
Women Moving Millions is proud to announce the launch of the Art Catalyst Matching Fund—a groundbreaking initiative at the intersection of art, gender equality, and democracy. This fund envisions an artistic ecosystem where women artists can thrive and where the transformative power of art—to bridge divides, heal, and inspire—is fully recognized. It is a celebration of art’s ability to connect us across differences and to spark hope and possibility in communities and around the world.
Made possible by a bold investment of $10 million from WMM member Maja Kristin, this timely fund will mobilize and match $10 million in new philanthropic commitments from our membership community, unlocking $20 million for women artists across disciplines within the next year.
Art has always been a driving force for change — a spark that ignites activism and opens the door to deeper cultural and political transformation. During times of crisis, artists play an essential role in raising consciousness, shifting public opinion, and influencing social change. From documentary film and journalism to public art, museums, literature, and music, artists stand at the forefront of movements—building bridges, opening hearts and minds, and reshaping our understanding of what’s possible.
Today, as institutions are being dismantled and regressive ideologies gain traction, philanthropy has both a responsibility and an opportunity: to resist the rollback of rights and envision a more just, equitable, and compassionate democracy. Art is not a luxury in this work—it is essential.
Women Moving Millions has long recognized the transformative power of art to advance gender equity. Our community of 400 philanthropists has committed over $1 billion to empower women and girls globally to date, prioritizing investments in bold narrative change efforts and elevating the role of women artists.
Now, as we kick off the first phase of our campaign to catalyze the second billion dollars in our history by 2030, we are inviting our community to participate in the WMM Art Catalyst Matching Fund—to uplift the artists shaping the future we all want to live in, and power a world where all women have full autonomy, freedom, and agency over every aspect of their lives.

By amplifying the voices of women artists today, the fund will invest in the visionaries of the future, helping to advance equity, elevate women creatives, and shift narratives around gender, power, and democracy.
